Acclaimed webtoon creator Kang Full's supernatural thriller "The Witch" is making its highly anticipated leap from digital panels to television screens, marking another milestone in the wave of webtoon-to-drama adaptations sweeping South Korea's entertainment industry. The series, which boasts an impressive 130 million views on its digital platform, held its star-studded production showcase in Seoul's Sindorim district on February 11.
Fresh from his military service, K-pop idol-turned-actor Park Jin-young (GOT7) takes center stage in what he calls a "dream project" within Kang Full's storytelling universe. During the press conference, Park's enthusiasm was palpable as he shared his connection to the source material. Rising star Noh Jung-eui, who joins the cast as a self-proclaimed longtime fan of the original webtoon, brings additional authenticity to the adaptation.
At the helm is veteran director Kim Tae-kyun, who revealed his creative kinship with Kang Full's distinctive narrative style. "There's a natural alignment between Kang's unique perspective and my directorial vision," Kim explained during the presentation, joined by cast members Im Jae-hyuk and Jang Hee-ryung.
The drama promises to unravel the mysterious tale of Park Mi-jung, a woman whose extraordinary beauty becomes both a blessing and a curse. As inexplicable accidents begin to plague those in her orbit, whispers of witchcraft follow in her wake. The plot thickens when Lee Dong-jin, a self-styled data mining expert, becomes entangled in her enigmatic world, setting the stage for a gripping exploration of romance, suspense, and supernatural elements.
Kang Full's previous works have consistently captivated audiences with their masterful blend of intricate plotting and carefully crafted revelations. "The Witch" appears poised to continue this legacy when it premieres on Channel A on February 15, airing every Saturday and Sunday at 9:10 PM KST.
